Pisa 2026 Symposium
Registration is now open
We are pleased to invite you to the Pisa 2026 Symposium: Science as a Driver of Green Innovation: Advancing Materials Research and Practice in Cultural Heritage Conservation, taking place on 6 October 2026 at the historic Opera della Primaziale Pisana in Pisa, Italy.
Marking the culmination of the four-year Horizon Europe MOXY project, this meeting brings together MOXY, GoGreen and GreenArt, the Green Cluster for Science and Conservation Research, to advance effective and sustainable conservation through cutting-edge science.
We are particularly pleased to welcome two distinguished keynote speakers, Stefan Michalski and Jørgen Wadum, who will offer complementary philosophical perspectives on conservation and heritage science. Stefan will reflect on the role and impact of science in conservation, and how research, practical experience and tacit knowledge can lead to genuine breakthroughs, while Jørgen will explore the interdisciplinarity of cultural heritage research and how different forms of knowledge fit together.
The programme will present the latest MOXY research, including developments in atomic oxygen cleaning technologies, their scientific validation and impact on cultural heritage materials, and the transition from laboratory research to museum practice. Contributions from GoGreen and GreenArt will provide complementary perspectives on sustainable conservation research and practice.
The Symposium will be presented in a hybrid format, with both in-person and online participation available. In-person attendance is limited, and we particularly encourage conservation professionals to join us in Pisa, where discussion and exchange with the researchers will be an important part of the event.
Registration is free, but space is limited.
